Little Cutie Gender Reveal

Our “little cutie” gender reveal was so precious, I didn’t take down the decorations for a week!

Also, SURPRISE! George and I are pregnant.

We found out we would be expecting in January, and we’ve been a bundle of emotions ever since reading the “POSITIVE” signal on the pregnancy test. We feel so blessed to embark on the adventure of parenthood! We’ve always wanted kids (this was a question we touched on when we FIRST started dating). George grew up with three siblings and I have a younger brother, so a full house feels like HOME.

After listening to some of my friends talk about their pregnancy journey, I feel pretty lucky. I had some heartburn, food aversions (red meat was a no no), fatigue and slight nausea, but have been able to keep up a workout routine with Orangetheory and keep up with my workload (with major thanks to my interns). We have leaned heavily on meal prep boxes because I lack the mental bandwidth to meal plan & prep right now, as does George in the middle of baseball season. They’ve been life savers!

I do feel like one side-effect of pregnancy that isn’t discussed all that often is anxiety. George and I feared our eight- and 12-weeks appointments, praying and hoping to hear a heartbeat.

As soon as I heard the heartbeat of our little one, the tears started flowing. It was instant and slightly shocking? I wasn’t expecting to cry, but the relief mixed with excitement and WONDER were overwhelming.

I think the anxiety stretched all the way to our 15-week appointment. Thank God our ultrasound tech was able to find the baby almost immediately. Always a relief. And our child actually LOOKED like a baby!! Instead of a bean! WILD! I could hardly believe my eyes. The transformation from 8 weeks to 15 weeks was drastic.

George and I decided to do a “gender scan” at 15 weeks to find out the sex of our baby. Was it a baby boy? A little girl? The ultrasound tech discreetly placed our results in an envelope and asked us what our guesses were for the gender reveal. I had no DISTINCT feeling one way or the other; however, I had started referring to the baby early on as a “her”. George thought the large forehead on the ultrasound was indicative of a boy.

We decided early on that we wanted to do a gender reveal but keep it low key. So, we invited a few friends over for a Sunday brunch party, complete with mimosas and mocktails. Our friends are SO sweet and offered to bring breakfast bites like muffins, fruit salad, crack snack mix, and donuts! This was all in addition the southwest breakfast George made and the cupcakes I purchased (thank you, Publix). We had PLENTY to eat. Which is awesome, because I feel like I’ve been eating with the fervor of a teenage boy since week 6 of my pregnancy.

The reveal? Exploding golf balls.

One of our friends had peeped our gender scan results and helped us set everything up in our front yard. After a countdown and a synchronized swing (I was so nervous, I whiffed my ball),

And a puff of PINK smoke exploded into the air.

A GIRL!

George and I are having a sweet baby girl!

We are thrilled! George has ordered himself a “girl dad” shirt and I’m excited to get shopping for little bows and dresses.

I’ll try to keep you updated as we inch closer to our September due date!
