10 Creative Date Night Ideas (...for when you're out of ideas)
DATE NIGHT DATE NIGHT DATE NIGHT! Keeping up with date nights can sometimes fall to the wayside when life gets busy. It’s important to spend intentional time with each other! George and I have spent a couple of evenings with our phones off and it’s just lovely to have extra space to focus on each other. Do we do this all the time? Heck no. Should we make it more of a habit? … yes.
With Valentine’s Day quickly approaching, we wanted to put together a list of creative date night ideas that will keep things interesting! Sometimes you just need to infuse some new ideas into your date night. AND - these could also be applicable for a fun gal-entines evening, as well.
10 Creative Date Night Ideas
PROGRESSIVE DINNER DATE. One of my personal favorites! Start your evening with a cocktail (or mocktail). Progress through your date, picking different spots for drinks, apps, entrees and dessert! Try to order something new and document your date night with a polaroid camera.
BLIND DATE. Bake a pie (or a cake or some sort of dish you both love). EXCEPT. The person #1 has to put together the ingredients blindfolded. Person #2 is in charge of giving directions (obviously - be very careful with sharp/hot objects … omit the blindfold when actually putting the pie in the oven).
CHEFS KISS. Sign up for a virtual cooking class. George and I signed up for a street taco class with a chef out of Mexico City and LOVED IT. We made homemade salsa AND tortillas from scratch!! We had a blast of a time and now we have a great taco recipe to follow.
LISTEN TO LINCOLN. Pack a picnic and hop in the car. After pulling out of your driveway, flip a penny (or a coin) to decide your next turn. Heads = left. Tails = right. See where “chance” takes you! Once you’ve explored enough (or hit enough dead ends), pick a spot to enjoy your packed picnic!
CASA GLAMPING. Build an indoor fort using all the blankets and pillows in your house. All of them. Snag some twinkle lights from your holiday storage and string those up, too. Snuggle up and watch a movie under the blankets while enjoying takeout from your favorite local spot.
SUNDAY KIND OF LOVE. Call one of your parents/grandparents and ask about their first date. Try to recreate it!
THRIFTSHOP. Wutt wutt. Wutt. Wuttttt. Go to a thrift store. The mission? Pick out a full outfit for your date. BUT - you only have 4 minutes to complete the mission. After purchasing and changing into your thrifty outfits, head to do a public activity together (mini golf, ice-cream, etc.) and ask a stranger to take your picture.
INNER ARTIST. Look up an art class on YouTube and purchase supplies to paint! Spend the evening at home painting a landscape/still life/portrait of choice. BONUS: Pair your painting with a glass of wine and inspirational playlist.
GAME NIGHT. I love a good game night. It’s a great way to tap into your competitive sides and exercise your mind! We love playing Gin Rummy, Nertz (multi-player solitaire), ERS and Garbage. We also love Bananagrams and I’ve heard Codenames is also a blast. AND - one of our favorite movies is “Game Night”, featuring Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams.
BLIND TASTE TEST. Pick a category (french fries, soda, chocolate, salsa, etc.) and each person collects a couple of samples from some well-known brands. Have one partner set up the samples and the second partner will try to guess which is which and/or rate them! George and I have also tried a blind taste testing with Skittles … George was able to guess almost all of the flavors correctly (while blindfolded). My accuracy was laughable.
Enjoy! And if you end up doing one of these date night ideas, tag me on Insta! I’d love to see how creative you all got with it.
