Things I'm Thankful For this Holiday Season
There’s something magical about the calendar year finally ticking down to the last few months of the year. Its almost as if the air vibrates with excitement, preparing for the holiday season ahead. Families are planning their annual turkey pilgrimages, sweaters have been pulled out from the “winter clothing” boxes, fireplaces are humming their familiar crackling tunes and holiday cheer seems to turn up the corner of smiles everywhere.
Happiness never runs short for me around the holidays. I’ve been known to turn on a Christmas song or two during the summer months if I needed a pick-me-up. And, although Christmas is my absolute favorite holiday, I always take care to show the meaning of Thanksgiving the love it deserves. ‘Tis the HOLIDAY season. So, as a proper salute to the American holiday, I wanted to share a list of things I’m feeling thankful for this season.
BIG, FUN LIFE DEVELOPMENTS! Like becoming engaged (read the story HERE) and starting to plan a wedding. Phew, buddy. Wedding planning is a huge undertaking (the ghosts of brides past and present are all nodding in agreement), but reminding myself of the true meaning of the ceremony + sacrament gives me all the feels.
The ability to TRAVEL. Puerto Rico, Charleston, Portugal and Seaside with multiple trips back to Texas to see the fam have been such a highlight of the year. Traveling is such a gift! And being able to see my parents on a regular basis (as I live a hop, skip, and a jump of a few states away) has been such a blessing.
Cute Videos. Especially this one with a kid genius who memorized all of the world’s flags. And I always manage to forget Delaware on a map of the US. Go figure. And then there’s the best baby reaction to everybody’s personal favorite (the head scratcher).
The fuzziest blanket I have ever owned, EVER. Although, I’d be willing to test the softness factor + warmth of other blankets if someone felt so inclined to send one to my casa.
Firefly Lane. My most recent read - I sobbed through the last couple of chapters #noshame . Read the book summary on Amazon, because I can’t do it justice.
My mom’s chocolate chip bourbon pecan pie. She makes it every year for the holidays (and sometimes for my father’s birthday). It’s always the first pie to disappear! Pairs well with a full glass of milk.
This list could go on and on! Once you get the ball rolling, it’s hard to stop! Wishing you the happiest of holiday seasons from L&L. May your days always be merry and bright!
