Homemade Everything at The Peach Tree
Hands down. Favorite lunch spot in Fredericksburg. Partially due to nostalgia and partially due to culinary masterminds working behind the scenes of The Peach Tree. The Peach Tree is a local business that has been around for as long as I remember. My family and I used to take lunch here on the weekends when I was little, and I would order the kid's PB&J. For some reason, their PB&J was unrivaled. Maybe it was all of the fancy cut fruit on the side.
I always suggest The Peach Tree as a lunch spot to visitors, when they ask for recommendations in Fredericksburg. You can shop while you wait for a table. Their menu includes seasonal teas. The daily soup, quiche and dessert specials are unbeatable. Everything is made from SCRATCH.
You can literally purchase a bread basket with a variety of breads (braided bread sticks, cheesy bread, herb bread, etc) and it comes with butter molded in the shape of hearts. There is just SOMETHING special about The Peach Tree. You feel as if you've stepped into a secret garden with specially concocted recipes. Whatever you order - it will not disappoint.
True Confession: I am not an egg person. I like eggs in my cakes, pies and breakfast tacos (with potatoes and a lot of cheese). But not really by themselves. However, the first time I took a bite into a Peach Tree quiche...a thought bolted through my mind. "WHY HAVE I NEVER HAD THIS BEFORE?" And now it's one of my favorite items on the menu.
The Peach Tree menu specials change often, and this particular weekend I had their Fredericksburg quiche (Opa's sausage and swiss cheese) with a half a cup of potato soup. Of course, it was delicious. Side note: If I'm lucky enough to show up on a day when the chilled avocado soup graces the menu - I am sure to order a bowl. My lunch buddy (mom) ordered the Fried Green Tomato sandwich. This was a new dish for us, and it was delicious. The tomatoes were the perfect blend of crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside - bursting with flavor. All while being sandwiches in between homemade bread slices.
If you decide on dessert (which you should), I would recommend literally anything. Anything. However, we love the Muddobber Cookie and their Coffee Ice-Cream Ghirardelli crusted pie. Made to share.
NEW DISCOVERY: Their hot chocolate. It comes in a giant mug, tastes of cinnamon and chocolate, and is garnished with a homemade marshmallow. I took one sip of my hot chocolate and Christmas carols started playing symphonies in my head. TOO GOOD.
Nothing less from one of my favorite lunch spots.
