William Chris Winery
Truly Texan. There are few wineries along 290 that can boast of producing 100% Texas wines. William Chris Winery belongs in this category. Nestled among the hills in Hye, Texas, William Chris opened their Hill Country haven in the 1990s. All of their grapes are grown in Texas, and they have many of their vines planted behind their tasting room.
I always recommend this winery as a "must stop" for friends who are visiting the area. It's a bit further out from Fredericksburg's city center, but the wine is worth the drive! William Chris is known to have a drier wine palate, although they do feature a great sweeter white wine called the Mary Ruth (which is a favorite summer - or anytime - wine for me).
If you'd like to do a tasting, you will have to make a reservation online. However, you are more than welcome to come without reservations to enjoy a bottle of wine on their back patio and enjoy some live music and Hill Country scenery. I recently had the pleasure of sharing a bottle of their Enchanté, and it DEFINITELY lived up to it's name (pleasure to meet you, vino).
As a Texas native and a wine lover, William Chris is constantly remains a personal favorite.
