Discover Auburn-Opelika’s Painted Mural Trail
Did you know that Auburn-Opelika has a mural trail? Ever since moving to Alabama, I’ve watched some EYE CATCHING murals pop up seemingly overnight (like beautiful painted magic). This trail features a stunning collection of murals painted by local and regional artists, each telling its own unique story and adding a vibrant touch to the area's streetscape.
When I first moved to Auburn, I heard rumblings about the murals around town and decided to spend a Saturday in search of a photo op. Not only were the murals fun to document via photography, but it was a great way for me to explore different areas around town as a newbie. Mural hopping would be a great activity for a sunny Saturday or Sunday in Auburn-Opelika!
I’ll share a list of a few of my favorites!
Auburn-Opelika’s Painted Mural Trail
Greetings from Opelika. This postcard-inspired mural was painted on the side of the Opelika Library and tips it’s hat to the city’s landmarks like the Opelika Courthouse, Robert Trent Jones golf course and the Opelika Historic District.
Easy Tiger. This mural is located on the patio of The Collegiate Hotel and is a stunning work of art. The mural features flowers from each of Auburn University's panhellenic and national panhellenic sororities, which is a nod to the building’s history as an all-female dorm. Butterfly Wings. Located across from Studio 3:19 in Downtown Opelika (N 8th Street and N Railroad Avenue), the butterfly wings have been a colorful landmark for years.
Azalea Wings. One of Opelika’s newest murals, this pink-inspired mural is a great spot for a photo op!
Bless You Wall. So southern. I love it.
War Eagle Wall. Perhaps one of the most photographed spots in Auburn, this mural is located right next to J&M’s on Toomer’s Corner. A classic.
