The Best Books to Read This Spring
And all of a sudden … the world has slowed down and my reading life has picked back up. I honestly forgot how much I love to read. Homework, sports, studying for tests, social commitments, leadership roles, full-time jobs, exercise and professional development … no wonder I was struggling to find personal reading time! I once sat in a chair and didn’t move until I read the final book of Harry Potter. True story. Ask my mom.
I love how books can transport you. And, this spring more than ever, we could also use a little bit of fiction in our lives. So, here are my top recommendations to add to your spring reading list.
A Gentleman in Moscow. THINK: Russia, early 1900s, genteel society. A “former person” under house arrest at a 5-star hotel in Moscow. His journey through the dynamics of every day and a new creative world introduced by a young mind. LOVED IT FOR: Character development, elevated vocabulary, unique setting.
The Nightengale. THINK: France, WWII. Two French sisters join the resistance, saving lives and weaving their own story into history. LOVED IT FOR: The suspense, historical fiction, heartstrings pulled.
Homegoing. THINK: A generational family saga beginning on the Ivory Coast of Africa. The book follow the story of two half sisters, the trajectory of their lives and how it shapes generations to come. LOVED IT FOR: African history, raw realness.
Cork Dork. THINK: All things wine in the most delightfully digestible way. I’ve just started this one and can’t wait to learn more. LOVE IT FOR: The author’s clever story telling, wine tasting tips and tricks.
Rules of Civility. THINK: NYC, pre-stock market crash, high society. A story of three young people and how their decisions shape the rest of their lives. LOVED IT FOR: The Great Gatsby vibe.
The Great Alone. THINK: A young protagonist and her parents start a new life in rural Alaska. Will the rough winters tear their new life apart? (I’ve just started this book and can’t WAIT to really dive into the adventure).
I’d love to hear what you bookworms are currently loving. Happy spring reading!
