Our Engagement :: The Story Behind the Ring
Now introducing my fiance, GEORGE! AH! It feels SO AMAZING to be able to type it out. IN PRINT. Well, digital print but same concept.
Wait. How did y’all meet?
George and I actually met through his little sister, Ann! Ann and I studied abroad together in Spain through a program that took students from Universities across the country. Magically, an Auburn grad and an Aggie grad because fast friends over the span of the summer. Ann and I stayed in touch after returning from our program. Ann invited me for a birthday weekend in Boston where she introduced me to her brother, George!
George and I hit it off in Boston, and through a whirl of events, multiple plane tickets and 3-4 cities later, George popped the question. And, obviously, I said yes!
He put a ring on it …
George did SO WELL in helping design the ring. Simple and classic. He worked with a family friend who designs some gorgeous pieces in Mexico City. Kitty Villalobos (@kitty_villalobos) was the mastermind behind it’s creation. And the story behind the ring is SO special to me.
A little back story … my grandmother, Frances, was actually born in Cuba (my great-grandparents were entrepreneurs from Louisiana exploring a new frontier). My grandmother and her family fled Cuba when she was young to live in Mexico City where she met her life-long best friend, Ana (we call her Chacha). Chacha and my grandmother were best buds and stayed in touch even after my grandmother moved to the United States … from bridesmaids to mothers …. they swapped kids every summer … my father and all of his sisters referred to Chacha as Aunt Chacha. I had the pleasure of getting to spend a part of my summer with Chacha and her family a couple of years ago, and it was a fantastic experience getting to meet and share life with our family friends in Mexico. Chacha’s granddaughter, Kitty, started a jewelry making business a couple of years ago and SHE IS TALENTED. I knew I would love for her to design the ring … the family connection would be just too perfect.
So Kitty and George were in cahoots designing the ring for a couple of months before he finally proposed! I couldn’t stop staring (see photos below). All of the family connections and lovingly crafted and cleverly designed finish product just holds an extra special meaning for George and I. We are overjoyed!
I can’t wait to share more with my favorite L&L readers over the course of the next year. Exciting things ahead!
