ATL :: Monday Night Garage Brews

LIFE UPDATE: Living & Local has moved to the deep south (AKA Alabama). And a new location brings a new adventure (and some new content for L&L)! I'm basically hopping from one small town to the next, determined to uncover the local secrets and hopefully become one in the process. The Fredericksburg content will still be making appearances for you Texas-based readers, so not to worry!

Things I've learned since moving to Alabama:

1. There are more Waffle Houses per capita in Alabama than anywhere else (and that fact was 100% fabricated, but I feel like it's close to accurate).

2. You can drive the width of the state in a matter of 2.5 hours (which would blow any Texan's mind).

3. I've traded my vino for hops (the microbrewery culture in the deep south is IMPRESSIVE).

And what better way to celebrate the move than to start exploring some local breweries? Weekends are not to waste, and crisp, sunny Saturdays are best spent with friends catching some Vitamin D. Even better if you're also sipping on some brews while enjoying the perfect spring day. Atlanta is a mere stone's throw away from my new home, and I have a couple of friends/ATL local's who love sharing their city.

As mentioned, the micro-brew culture is HOPPIN' in the south. So, my ATL locals wanted to introduce me to some Atlanta-based breweries. After careful deliberation, we decided to hit Monday Night Brewing Company. Their mantra? "Monday Night Brewing exists to deepen human relationships over some of the best beer in the country." Well. Mission Accomplished. Monday Night Brewing  attracts humans (and dogs) from all over the city with their trendy tasting room and wide variety of brews.

We lucked out with the weather (I might have gotten a sliiiiighttt sunburn). Monday Night has great outside spaces for people to spread out and enjoy some conversation (and/or cards and Jenga) over some brews. Being a compete newb, I opted first for a flight of beer. Four chances to find something I liked. And. I liked them all!

Completing my line-up were a raspberry sour (nice and refreshing - my beer taste buds are still maturing...), Blind Pirate (an IPA I can actually drink and enjoy), I'm On a Boat (what I ordered for the rest of the afternoon) and Whirling Dervish (a lighter stout - I'm a sucker for those coffee flavors).

We played cards, built and toppled our Jenga set, made friends with a number of fluffy pups, signed the Garage wall (pictured below), and enjoyed a number of tasty brews while soaking up the sun.

The brew culture in Atlanta has an energy that will keep me coming back. I was surrounded by some quality company (my ATL locals), fun views and craft beer. Cheers!
