Rainy Day Activities :: Fredericksburg, Texas

Rain in the Texas Hill Country is ALWAYS welcome. Our flora is usually thirsting for a spritz by Mother Nature. However, the rain doesn't always go hand-in-hand with your weekend plans. So, Living and Local has compiled a list of Rainy Day Activities to do in Fredericksburg.

1. The National Museum of Pacific War. Fredericksburg is home to the Admiral Nimitz Museum. This museum is nationally recognized and, after they remodeled, George Bush Senior lead the re-opening ceremony. Admiral Nimitz, a Fredericksburg native, led the United States Navy efforts in the Pacific Theater during World War II. A ticket to the museum will last you for two full days (and you'll need that extra day). Packed full with interactive displays, the Nimitz Museum recounts and remembers the war in the Pacific. I love history (so I geek out over this museum), but I've also heard, first-hand, from a non-museum lover - that The Nimitz is a MUST DO when in Fredericksburg.

2. Art Galleries. They run a-plentyyyy in Fredericksburg. The majority of the galleries are clustered on the west side of Main Street (perfect for dodging those rain drops). From Orange to Crockett Street, you'll hit about five in a row. And, on the first Friday of every month, the art galleries stay open late and supply their guests with wine and snacks (who doesn't love art with their wine?).

3. Coffee and cookies at Vaudville's underground bistro. If you're looking for some bougie (and QUALITY) coffee and confections, check out Vaudville. Their storefront on Main Street is a home goods/art gallery, but a quick jog down the stairs will land you in the bistro. Lunch? Wine? Coffee? Cookies? Yes to all of the above. I would HIGHLY recommend their Madagascar latte and s'mores cookie for an afternoon pick-me-up.

4. RockBox Theater. A live music venue just off of Main Street - buy yourself a ticket and enjoy the show! Many of the acts showcase rock-and-roll and well loved bands like The Beatles and Elvis.  They cater well to the music lover.
