Fall in Fredericksburg

Fall. When pumpkin flavored scents and seasoning magically appear everywhere and in everything. And when the weather starts to back off of the heavy heat (which for Texas means sweaters in the morning and shorts in the afternoon). Fall is my favorite season of the year (besides Christmas), and fall in Fredericksburg is FAN-FRED-TASTIC. So, I’ve complied a list of “fall-y” things to do while in Fredericksburg.

  1. Oktoberfest (Oct 6-8). This is the culmination of all things Fredericksburg. German heritage, love for food and drink, and community. The town population increases by 3x it’s normal size, and it’s perfectly normal to walk past people dressed in lederhosen. Oktoberfest falls (ha - punny) during the first weekend of October and is jam-packed with music, socializing and (of course) lots of beer. Biergartens, fried food, sausage, polka, oh my! It tends to get crowded, so show up early to get a wristband. The crowds are heaviest on Saturday night.

  2. Kraut Run (Oct 7). This run/walk kicks off Oktoberfest weekend (and what better way to burn calories before ingesting all of the Oktoberfest fried good-ness). Runners can particiate in the timed 8K or, if you’re a little more low-key, they offer a 5K. #getfit

  3. Pick some pumpkins! The Vogel Orchards Pumpkin Patch will be open for pickings Sept 29-Oct 31. AND WHO DOESN’T LOVE A PUMPKIN PATCH IN THE FALL?! Gah, so classic you just can’t help but smile.

  4. Get lost in a Corn Maze. Check out “Mazed and Confused” (Oct 1-Nov 12). Another fall classic. Corn mazes are fall fun for the adventurous soul. This venue also offers hayrides and live music on the weekends! Tickets are $10.

  5. Participate in Wine Trail Month. October is Texas Wine Trail Month (WHAT! WHO KNEW?!). Visit The Texas Hill Country Wineries website to learn more about exploring local wineries and participating in the trail (48 wineries are currently participants). Rumor has it, your Wine Trail Passport will get you some free tastings and special discounts.

  6. Painting! Yellow Door Studio offers painting classes for every season, but I just love the thought of painting while wearing a sweater and drinking a mug of hot apple cider. Check out their schedule and channel your inner candy corn and pumpkin painting Picasso.

  7. Live Music and Blankets (AKA cozy oversized sweaters). Fredericksburg HEARTS live music. Whilst moseying down Main Street, let the music lead you and pick an ambiance that best fits your mood. Wear your coziest sweater and enjoy the musical musings while breathing in that crisp autumn air.
