Tubby's Ice House :: Taco Tuesdays and Patio Vibes

6:30 PM on a warm Texas evening: the hour where the sun starts to sit lower in the sky and the afternoon heat starts to retreat. This is when we Texans start daring to venture out of the A/C and onto our patios.  As an avid fan of summer patio sittin', I would be amiss not to share one of my favorite outdoor restaurants.

Tubby's Ice House, a local Fredericksburg eatery, has a stellar patio vibe with some DELICIOUS eats. Nestled on a corner behind the National Museum of the Pacific War, Tubby's is a little bit off the well-worn path of Main Street (but not too far so that you couldn't make a detour by foot). Greenery and colorful fixtures give the place a funky, fresh character, making it one of my places to grab a bite to eat and enjoy a frosty (local) beverage. 

Tubby's is family friendly - featuring a kiddo fave playscape (who doesn't love slides and tic-tac-toe?!) and a bocce ball court. On weekends, you can find some small acoustic live music acts featured on their side patio. They are also environmentally friendly, offering organic ingredients and recycling options . 

If you're a Taco Tuesday fanatic - Tubby's is your place. The variety of fresh food options are plentiful - but they're best known for their tacos. Personal taco faves: Carne Asada and Cashew Shrimp (but you really can't go wrong). On Tuesdays, they feature new (delicious) taco specials#tacotuesday

However. I think the secret surprise and drool-worthy item on the menu are their pulled pork fries *stomach growl* *see photos featured below* *BEWARE: MAY CAUSE DROOLING*

Full transparency: I order this plate of fries as my dinner (DUN DUN DUN). However, I think it has a fabulous nutritional balance (or so I tell myself) because the fries (carbs) are covered in a blanket of pulled pork (protein), slaw (veggies), cheese (dairy), and their "AWESOME" sauce. It really is awesome - I will attest. 

The beers on tap feature local brews and come served in a frosty glass. Current brew fave: The Ridgeback Ale. So smooth (goes great with a serving of those pulled pork fries). Also incredibly refreshing: their hibiscus mint water. Tell me that doesn't sound delicious.
