Cottage 506 :: Modern Farmhouse Charm in Fredericksburg

Camping is to Big Bend as staying in a Bed & Breakfast is to Fredericksburg. (My 7th grade English teacher would be proud). AKA: The most popular form of accommodation in Fritz Town comes in the form of a B&B. And with upwards of 800 B&Bs listed in the area, how can one choose?

For me, it's in the details. Precious details are key when deciding where to book your stay in town. My good friend, Lauren, decided to channel her inner Chip and Joanna (from HGTV's Fixer Upper) partnering with her husband and in-laws to create a perfect Fredericksburg space. Hence, Cottage 506 was born.

Cottage 506 is a historical home, and the decor does a flawless job of blending the modern while taking care to preserve some of the past. (Sounds VERY similar to the city of Fredericksburg). The B&B is peppered with small pieces that really add character to the home. Small pink orchids, a vintage scale (to display sugar packets for the coffee bar), an old wooden church bench used for additional seating in the sun room. These small details seem to sing a lovely, "Be Our Guest" tune!

Also. When you book a stay at Cottage 506, you will receive a complimentary bottle of wine from Lost Draw Winery. Now, raise your hand if you want to stay at Cottage 506 and receive a free bottle of wine. *raises own hand*

To take you behind the scenes, I walked through a Q&A session with Lauren and her mother-in-law, Melanie.

What was your inspiration for the name "Cottage 506"?

"Cottage" has an inviting and welcoming draw...we want all of our guests to feel welcome and at home during their stay in Fredericksburg.

How would you describe your style dècor/inspo?

Melanie: The home was built in the 1930's, so we wanted to keep the historical feel, while thoughtfully adding updates. The windows, glass cabinets and wood floors are some of my favorite aspects of the original home, and we added some modern touches with furniture and dècor.

What was your favorite part of putting Cottage 506 together?

Lauren: The best part was that it was a group effort! We purchased the property as a joint venture with my in-laws, but other family members and close friends would stop by to help along the way. Our toddlers even helped by throwing open boxes and delivering tools! Each person shared their time and talents, and I love looking at the home and seeing evidence of that.

What is your favorite thing about living in Fredericksburg?

Lauren: I love that Fredericksburg blends a rich history with opportunities that appeal to everyone.

Melanie: The charm, the history, OUR family's history dating back to the first settlers.

What are some "MUST DOs" while visiting Fredericksburg?

Lauren: Visit during the holiday season! Christmas lights light up Main Street, the German Pyramid on display at Marketplatz, ice-skating and the Christmas parade!

Melanie: Of course, the wine and brewery tours and just simply walking up and down Main Street. The Cottage is only 3.5 blocks away from all of the fun!
