The Best Wines for Your Summer Picnic
I love a good summer picnic complete with a full charcuterie board and the perfect warm-weather wine paring. My wine preferences are influenced by the season, especially when it’s full sunshine. Summer wines to me are crisp, dry and have a slight tang!
These are a few bottles I recently purchased from World Market in the spirit of summer. I think World Market has a good sampling of unexpected wines - I’ve enjoyed everything I purchased their lately. Plus, they carry a lot of foreign wines (France, Chile, Italy). These are my wine picks for your summer picnic!

Nortico Alvarinho.
A lovely Portuguese Albariño white wine. After traveling to Portugal with my friends in 2019, I’ve gravitated to Portuguese wines (when they’re available). They’re almost always delicious and ring in at a conservative price point (~$14). The label gives a nod to the famous Portuguese blue and white tiles (I actually have one on display in my house).
TASTING NOTES: Straw color, fresh citrus, peach, acidic.
PAIR WITH: Lean fish, cured meats and apps.
HOPE’S NOTE: I would buy a case of this white wine to keep on-hand at all times.
Les Petites Sardines - Muscadet Sèvre Et Maine Sur Lie.
This French Melon de Bourgogne white wine earned itself a 4.0 on the Vivino rating scale, making it a popular pick.
TASTING NOTES: Dry, light-bodied, citrus notes, tangy.
PAIR WITH: Oysters, fish, a warm summer night.
The Pale by Sacha Lichine.
When I heard Whispering Angel had a sister wine at a lower price point, I had to see what all the fuss was about. The design of this bottle is gorgeous (peep the edging on the bottom of the bottle) and it’s a screw top, so you won’t have to pack a wine opener in your picnic basket.
To quote the Wine Industry Advisor, “Crafted with grapes from the Vin de Pays Du Var region of Provence, The Pale is a quality, quintessential rosé that makes all others pale in comparison: dry and refreshing in a signature Provençal grey-pink with light fruits and a clean finish.”
TASTING NOTES: Pale pink, notes of strawberry and watermelon. Light and dry.
PAIR WITH: Pork, chicken, vegetarian meals.
Cheers to the perfect wine for your summer picnic!
