Narrow Path Winery :: A Hill Country Oasis
Driving along back-roads of the Texas Hill Country, winding your way through Albert, you’ll happen upon what you might believe to be a mirage of lush vineyards and modern architecture. SURPRISE! You’ve stumbled onto a Hill Country wine oasis: Narrow Path Winery.
Narrow Path is family owned and operated just 20 miles from downtown Fredericksburg. It’s close enough to the 290 Wine Trail that you don’t have to dedicate an entire day to the travel, but far enough of the path that you won’t run into the overcrowding of the easy-access wineries. (AKA: IDEAL).
They grow most of their grapes on site and import the remainder from west Texas, so they create and serve true Texas wines. The majority of their wine list is on the drier side, which I love (although they do have a couple of fruitier wines). My mother and I made the trip out to Narrow Path on a Sunday and it made for the loveliest afternoon.
One of my dear friends works out at the winery, and she gave us a wonderful tasting experience! She carefully went through each wine and noted each of the flavors and gave us recommendations. The tasting room is almost ALL windows, so you can enjoy a full view of the vines against the big blue Texas sky. We tasted the majority of the wine list (and loved them all!), but the Marsanne (white wine) and Alluvial Red (red wine) were our favorites! Mom and I bought a bottle of the Alluvial to take home and enjoying a couple of glasses while sitting on the porch.
We even ended up chatting with Narrow Path’s sommelier, and he shared a lot of great information about the grapes that were currently growing and the new vines they’re hoping continue to grow. I loved how accessible and personable the Narrow Path team was during our visit - it helped add to the experience.
Narrow Path is a winery where you want sit and stay for a while. They have a number of covered areas (BEAT THE HEAT) with comfortable chairs for their guests to share a bottle of wine together. So, enjoy your Texas oasis - and kick back with a bottle of fine wine!
