Hilmy Wines

Visiting Hilmy Winery has been on my list of “things to do” for a while. The winery itself opened in 2012, so it could be considered somewhat of a “veteran” on the Texas 290 Wine Trail.

I chose my father to be my wine tasting buddy, as he enjoys wines as much (if not more) than I do! Hilmy is a smaller, boutique winery, and a working farm! The market themselves for the drier wine tasting lovers, but I think anyone who truly loves wine would just LOVE Hilmy.

We chose our wine tasting to be a mix of their wines. We tried two whites, one rose and two reds. All of which, I thoroughly enjoyed. The first white wine we tasted ended up being my favorite of my group - Doo Zwa Zo. AH. MAZE. ING. When I picture having a picnic during the summertime, this would be the wine I’d pull out of my wicker picnic basket. My father and I liked it so much, we ended up buying the bottle! (To be fair, we also purchased the Rose and Malbec, BUT we enjoyed the Doo Zwa Zo on their cute patio). And, if you’re more of a red drinker, I would suggest the Juju! It’s a delicious red blend - if you enjoy a full-bodied Cabernet, you would like Hilmy’s Juju.

It was the perfect sips and sits experience. I loved the more personal vibe of the winery, their friendly staff, and (of course) all of their wines. Definitely be sure to add Hilmy to your wine list!
