Auburn-Opelika Spring Bucket List

Punxsutawney Phil predicted that spring would come early and, judging by the amount of flowering trees around town, I believe he was correct! Ever since moving to the southeast, spring has been my favorite season. Everything is in FULL bloom from azaleas to hydrangeas to jasmine and wisteria. All of a sudden the outdoors become a Monet-esque painting and the weather is sunshine and 70 degrees.

So, what is there to do around Auburn-Opelika this spring? I’ll share with you a few of my bucket list items!

Auburn-Opelika Spring Bucket List

  1. Visit Chewacla State Park: Explore the park's hiking trails, set up your hammock and read a good book or have a picnic with friends and family.

  2. Attend a baseball game: Catch a game at Plainsman Park and cheer on the Auburn Tigers. Their new Hall of Fame Club offers an elevated ballpark experience, if you’re looking for a little something extra! Check out my video HERE for more details.

  3. Explore the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art: Take a leisurely stroll through the museum's beautiful grounds and enjoy its diverse art collections. I love exploring the exhibits and then enjoying a cup of coffee overlooking the pond.

  4. Spring Old 280 Boogie: Imagine a bunch of folk singers pickin’ banjos in a field but with cocktails and food trucks. It’s awesome.

  5. Tea on Thatch: The Laurel Hotel and Spa’s restaurant, 1856, hosts an afternoon tea on Sundays, reminiscent of the classic British Tea but with a modern Auburn twist. “The [1856] culinary team has prepared an experience unlike any other for you. Tiers of exquisite savory and dessert items await you, with some surprises along the way. Thrive Farmer’s Specialty Teas have been hand-curated by our beverage team for your enjoyment.” Sounds like a lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon to me!

  6. Have a picnic on Samford Lawn: Pack a picnic basket and spend a relaxing afternoon on campus! I’d first make a pit stop at Toomer’s Corner for a vanilla lemonade to sip on while sitting in the sunshine.

  7. Explore the Opelika Historic Downtown: Wander through the charming streets of downtown Opelika, shop at local boutiques, and grab a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants. Plus, the Opelika Azalea and Dogwood Festival is BEAUTIFUL! Follow the signs through Historic Opelika and take a walking tour to admire the flowers.

  8. Attend a local farmers' market: Stock up on fresh produce, baked goods, and local crafts at the Opelika Farmers' Market (every Tuesday from 3-6pm) or the Auburn University Campus Market.

  9. Take a day trip: Make a trip to Birmingham or Providence Canyon State Park for a quick change of scenery. Ride with the windows down! I have a full blog post of the best day trips from Auburn-Opelika HERE.

Enjoy those springtime blooms!
