Top Wineries in Fredericksburg, Texas (A Local's Guide)

GrapeCreek

GrapeCreek

Planning a trip to Fredericksburg? With over a dozen different wineries, planning a weekend itinerary can prove to be overwhelming with all of the options. And, depending how you travel, you might prefer different stops during a wine weekend. One of my main missions is to share my FAVORITE wineries in the Fredericksburg area that follow a few criteria:

1) Quality wines (mostly Texan)

2) Beautiful grounds

3) Not overcrowded

4) Quality wines

Yes, I listed quality wines twice (VIP). And, because I grew up in the Fredericksburg area, I’ve had some experience with exploring the area. AND, this list is a compilation of the wineries I frequent (and frequently recommend)!

William + Chris

William + Chris is a smaller, boutique winery that focuses on producing true Texas wines. Any wine lover would enjoy a glass on their patio - they’re known for their drier varietals. Be sure to make a reservation in advance if you’re wanting to do a full wine tasting; otherwise, you can purchase a bottle and listen to live music on their patio!

VIBE: Classic Texas Hill Country. Higher end wines.

August Vin Winery

August Vin sits on the opposite side of Fredericksburg from the Texas Wine Trail and their grounds are absolutely gorgeous. When I’m home, this is the winery I visit. The often have live music and their outdoor seating area is spacious, so you don’t feel crowded by other visitors. They’re on track to be a full estate winery (which means they will produce only wines from grapes on their property)! This is unique in Fredericksburg.

VIBE: Upscale aesthetic. Architecture’s Digest. Hill Country Heaven.

Narrow Path Winery

Narrow Path Winery is located closer to Albert, Texas (about a 10-15 minute drive off of Highway 290). If you have a car and you’re willing to venture, Narrow Path’s gorgeous modern structure and rows of vines will wow you (and just wait until you try their wines).

VIBE: Relaxed. Sit and stay a while.

Kuhlman Cellars

Kuhlman Cellars sits right off of 290 and offers one of the more unique tasting experiences in Fredericksburg: FOOD PAIRING. Their chef prepares a special menu to perfectly compliment their Texas wines, while their staff walks you through the WHY and HOW of the mutual compliments.

VIBE: Perfect for the epicure.

Grape Creek Winery + Heath Sparkling Wines

GrapeCreek is one of the original wineries along 290. They have a newly remodeled tasting room located smack dab in the middle of Fredericksburg’s Main Street as well as a full service winery (tasting room, winery tours, restaurant, etc.). GrapeCreek’s popularity (and tenure) draws wine drinkers from across the U.S. (be ready for more of a crowd on Saturdays) and their winery will transport you to Tuscany. Update as of October 2020: The wines are still delicious, but because of the vineyard’s popularity, you might find a larger crowd. Definitely plays more to the wine club members.

Grepe Creek and Heath Sparkling Wines are essential under the same parent brand (they share a parking lot). Heath is the first sparkling wines tasting room in Texas. Be sure to make a tasting appointment to get your bubbly on.

VIBE: Tuscan + Tenured. Great for groups with differing pallets.

Signor Vineyards

Signor has an outdoor patio that goes on for days. Their wine tasting room is small (make reservations), which encourages people to enjoy their patio/gardens. Their wines are mostly from Oregon, although they do have a couple of Texas wine options.

VIBE: Cute garden party. Eat charcuterie while clinking wine glasses.

Baron’s Creek Vineyards

Baron’s Creek has a beautiful back patio, private rooms on the grounds where you can spend the night, and a beautiful private tasting room. Their wine list is robust, and their rose has been known to win awards. Enjoy yard games and a back patio sit while enjoying your glass of wine!

VIBE: Perfect for your insta stories.

And thus concludes my top winery picks for Fredericksburg (for now)! SIP SIP HOORAY!
